Vans water and stain shield

The Vans Water and Stain Shield is a waterproof product that is specially made to protect Vans from water and stains. It works like an invisible shield against water and stains. Some people are afraid of getting their favorite Vans wet, so they don’t wear them, but with this fix, your shoes are safe.

The best way to protect shoes is to use a protectant spray on them. This will keep them safe from water damage and stains. Shoe protectant spray is a great option because it is affordable and super easy to use. With a simple application, you can go gliding through wet and muddy roads without any fear of shoe damage.

I’ve used the Vans Wash and Stain Shield on two occasions. These two occasions had different outcomes, which I’ll share in this article. I have covered a brief overview of the Vans Water and Stain Shield, how long it takes to dry, how to apply it, and what it can be applied to. I have also offered guidelines on how to protect your white canvas.

The Vans Water & Stain Shield is a waterproof product that is specially made to protect against water and stains without being seen.

One popular protectant spray and our subject of discussion is the Vans Wash and Stain Shield, which comes highly recommended for leather, suede, canvas, and other materials of shoes. It makes no difference if they are your favorite pair of Canvas Vans, Jordans, hiking boots, driving shoes, or sandals; all you need is a quick spray of this and some time to let it soak in.

It is ideal for shoes and other accessories made from canvas, cotton, nubuck, suede, leather, mesh, or nylon. It covers up the outer layer of your shoes, so water beads off. It can also prevent colors in the uppers from washing out when wet. It works perfectly for shoe perseverance and maintenance. This shoe spray is like a fairy godmother for shoe cleanliness. It cleans everything, making your shoe look brand new.

This invisible Vans shield is recommended to be used before you wear your Vans for the first time to ensure maximum protective benefits.

How long do vans Water and Stain Shield take to dry?

After spraying the Vans Water and Stain Shield on your footwear, you must leave it for 24 hours to let the spray sit in and properly dry. During this period, the spray will create an oleophobic coating on the materials of your footwear, which will aid in repelling stains and liquids and help stop the bleeding out of saturated colors.

Once this formula has stayed for 24 hours, you can wear them out and be assured your van’s shoes are fortified with all the benefits the spray promises.

Should I waterproof Vans?

Vans shoes are not totally waterproof, but they are water-resistant. Their rubber outsoles and midsoles are fully waterproof, meaning water will not get into your shoe from the ground.

However, most of their uppers, like the Old Skool, are made with canvas and suede upper. These materials are not waterproof, meaning water will soak through them when exposed.

So it’s wise you waterproof your vans if you intend to use them outdoors in any weather, like the rainy seasons.

Though the waterproof rubber outsole and midsole will keep the suede or canvas upper from getting wet from the ground, they can’t prevent some water from the falling rain above from getting into the vans.

With proper care in waterproofing the upper, you can wear your vans in the rain and not worry about getting wet.

How do you protect white canvas Vans?

The best way to protect white canvas is to prime them with a water/stain protectant like the vans Water and Stain Shield or any other product of your choosing.

As I said earlier, putting this spray on your shoes before you wear them for the first time is a great idea. This will make them waterproof and resistant to stains and dirt.

If your white canvas Vans are not brand new, follow these steps below to protect them:

Before applying a waterproof spray, your white canvas Vans should thoroughly clean and dry. Using a toothbrush, scrub any debris from the outsole and wash the canvas upper with mild liquid soap and water to remove dirt/stains. After washing, rinse with fresh cold water and allow it to dry fully for at least 24 hours.

Many recommend the Water & Stain Shield spray for vans, even white vans, but I wouldn’t. I told you that the spray had different outcomes for me on the two occasions I used it. The first was when I applied it to my white canvas. It ruined the white color, with yellowish spots all over the van.

However, they worked perfectly well when I used them on my black Vans Comfycush Old Skool. So, I don’t recommend you use the van’s water and stain shield spray on white, but you can use them on other colors.

However, you can choose to use them if they work for you or use another waterproofing spray you have tested or feel is safe on your white Canvas. I use the Adidas original shoe protector spray on my white canvas Vans, and it works fine.

Once you’ve decided on a waterproofing spray and your washed vans shoe is completely dried, apply the waterproofing spray safely from the Vans (20cm – 30cm) and allow it to fully dry for an additional 24 hours before wearing it.

Many waterproof sprays take weeks or months before another application is required. So ensure to reapply the spray on your white canvas Vans depending on the time range on your spray bottle.

vans water and stain shield vs. Scotchgard

The Scotchgard Suede and Nubuck Protector are perfect for suede and unfinished leather. Not only is it designed to repel water, but it also repels oil-based stains. However, this waterproof can’t be used on smooth or polished leather; this is where it loses the battle with the vans water and stain shield.

Unlike the Scotchgard Suede and Nubuck Protector, vans water and stain shield can be used on smooth or polished leather.

vans water and stain shield how to use

Using Vans water and stain shield is best done with a brand new pair of shoes when they are clean. But if you are working with a pair of new shoes, you should clean them before applying this spray.

  1. Using a toothbrush, remove all of your van’s mud, dirt, and other contaminants. Then use mild soap and water to wash out stains from the top.
  2. Once your shoes are completely clean, the next thing to do is to dry them completely. If your shoes are wet, the spray will not be as effective on them as it should be.
  3. Before applying the spray, you should let your shoes dry for at least 24 hours. After 24 hours, use your fingers to squeeze some of the material to see if there is any moisture left. Let the shoes sit for an additional time to completely dry if there is still time. You can apply the spray when they are dry with zero moisture left.
  4. You should remove the shoe laces so the spray can reach every part of the upper; you can also spray your laces once you’ve taken them off if you like.
  5. Ensure to apply the spray to the whole shoe. After applying, let the solution sit on the shoes for an additional 24 hours (unless the product states otherwise).

What Is Vans Water and Stain Shield Ingredients?

Vans water and stain shield is made with a silicone and fluoropolymer base. These effective waterproofing ingredients generally won’t leave streaks or a permanent unpleasant scent on your shoes. They are not always safe to inhale, so when applying them at home, be cautious. You can wear a nose mask to prevent you from inhaling the solution.

Can I use the vans water and stain shield on Nike?

Nike shoes are generally water-repellent and not waterproof. You can choose to waterproof them with the vans water and stain shield. However, reviews have shown that wax treatments are a much better option for Nikes, especially those made with knit materials, because the wax can easily seep in between the woven fabric, sealing them to barricade unwanted moisture.

Can I use vans water and stain shield on jordans?

Most Jordan shoes are not waterproof by default, so it helps to waterproof them. As I noted earlier, I do not recommend the vans water and stain shield for white shoes, but if your Jordans are of other colors, you can use them on the vans water and stain shield.

Jordan leathers are already water resistant; however, for peace of mind, you can use any water and stain repellent on them. I use sole shields on my Jordan xii to keep them from turning yellowish and getting ruined by water and other stains.

vans water and stain shield on leather

The vans water and stain shield can be used on leather shoes or jackets. Natural leathers are not completely waterproof, so to protect them from the ruins of coming in contact with water, applying a spray of this silicone product will go a long way. Once dry, the Vans water and stain shield will create a waterproof barrier over the surface of your leather, thereby protecting it from water damage.

I’ve discovered they work well on other colors of shoes, excluding white. As stated in the body of this article, this spray made my white canvas yellowish but worked well on my black Vans Comfycush Old Skool, which is why I don’t recommend it for white shoes.

However, this waterproof solution does provide a shield against water and stains, as it claims, so you can go ahead and use them on your non-white footwear and be assured of the ability to walk through water on your shoes without the fear of any damage.
